Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the service suitable for me?
If you experience vertigo when rolling over in bed or looking up, feel off-balance when you walk (or veer to the side), or are sensitive to movement or visual environments then an assessment with a vestibular physiotherapist is recommended. In addition, if you have noticed your balance has got worse, you've had a fall or multiple falls, or you feel worried about falling, this service is likely to be appropriate for you. Please submit an enquiry or give the clinic a call if you have any further questions.
  • Do I need a referral to the service?
No medical referral is required for private patients. However, a referral is required if you are under the Department of Veterans Affairs or if you wish to receive a rebate through an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC)/Chronic Disease Management Plans. Your GP will decide whether you are eligible for an EPC and this will need to be dated before your appointment to claim a rebate from Medicate.
  • How long will my initial appointment take and what can I expect?
Please allow an hour for your initial appointment so that a thorough history and assessment can be completed. This will include an interview then a series of tests of your balance system. These will be used to determine a treatment plan.
  • How much will my appointment cost?
Initial Consultation (60 minutes) $180 Follow Up Appointment (30 minutes) $90 Long Follow Up Appointment (45 minutes) $120
  • Do you accept private health or enhanced primary care plans?
Yes, Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC)/Chronic Disease Management Plans are accepted. We do not bulk bill, so the total amount needs to be paid at the time of your appointment. The HICAPs facility allows the processing of Medicare EPC/Chronic Disease Management Plan claims if you have a debit card, Medicare card and the referral form. The refund can be made into the account attached to your debit card. If you do not have a debit card, Medicare card and the EPC referral form, a receipt can be provided, which you claim online through Medicare or claim in person at Medicare. The standard EPC rebate from Medicare is currently $55.10. You cannot claim through both private health and Medicare EPC.
  • What is vestibular rehabilitation and does it work?
Vestibular rehabilitation is an exercise-based physiotherapy approach to the treatment of vestibular (inner ear) problems. It is now considered to be the most successful management approach for people with dizziness and balance problems associated with disorders of the vestibular system. Results vary for individuals: for some the effects are dramatic while others take more work and time to manage their symptoms.
